The Old Governor’s Mansion, built in 1929 by the “Kingfish,” Huey P. Long, reflects the beauty and history of Louisiana. The Shaw Center for the Arts houses the Manship Theatre, the LSU Museum of Art and an education center, and is an architectural marvel itself. Although there are many festivals in Baton Rouge, such as Bayou Country Superfest and Baton Rouge Blues Festival, the Pennington Hot Air Balloon Championship stands out due to its whimsical nature. The 160-year-old National Historic Landmark has withstood great political turmoil, and is now the site of the Old State Capitol for Political and Governmental History. Visit the museum and be charmed by The Ghost of the Castle, or book this romantic, gothic venue for an event.

The River Center plays host to more than 500 events a year, including concerts, conventions, sporting events, trade shows, and theatrical productions. With a versatile Ballroom and Arena, as well as the Theatre for the Performing Arts and the Exhibition Hall, the Baton Rouge River Center is the go-to place for events.
Get a taste of French Creole culture and architectural influences while touring the Magnolia Mound Plantation. Through educational programs, workshops, lectures, and festivals, learn about the culture that has greatly influenced southern Louisiana today. Tip: If you can’t make it in the fall, head down for Memorial Day and experience Bayou Country Superfest in Tiger Stadium.
